Painfully Obsessed Over Perfection
And somehow still a mess.
Who is behind this
I had a mentor. I had a roadmap. And I was still completely thrown into the deep end without knowing what was happening. Nobody tells you about the contractor who quits the morning of a big job, or the client who wants a discount and expects you to fold, or the moment you realize the whole business is running on your nervous system.
I grew up in California and figured out how to read a room fast. That skill runs the business now. This blog is what nobody told me, written out loud so you don't have to figure it out alone. And if you're just here for the entertainment, that's completely valid too.
What lives here
Real talk, real recipes, real photography, and the very real experience of chasing a standard you set for yourself at age nine.
The Personal Layer
Honest content about anxiety, the inner critic, and what it actually feels like to build something from nothing while your brain is still convinced you're doing it wrong.
Business
What it actually looks like to run a cleaning company. Not the highlight reel. The raw parts other business accounts would never post.
Products and Recipes
Strong opinions. Specific details. Homemade recipes that actually work. Product reviews from someone who has tried approximately one thousand things and will tell you exactly which ones lied to her face.
The Latest
The real diary. New ones land here first, before anywhere else.
The Obsessive's Guide to Clean
I'm running the business from bed this week, sick, surrounded by cats, in a new house that doesn't feel like mine yet. Then I dusted one room with my favorite honeysuckle spray and it finally smelled like home. On nervous systems, noise, and the recipe I refuse to post until I've tested it.

I was in the bath with sciatica, wondering why nobody talks about the uncomfortable, unglamorous, deeply human stuff we're all supposed to glaze over. So I decided to be the person who does. Here's why the blog is named what it's named.

Stay in the loop
No fluff. No algorithm deciding what you see. Just Ellyn, talking too much about cleaning products, directly to your inbox.
You're on the list. Welcome to the mess.
